Is Summer Reading Really All That Important?

Even if your English course doesn’t specifically require summer reading, it’s important to keep abreast of classics and current bestsellers. According to the Pew Research Center, about a quarter of American adults (24%) say they haven’t read a book in whole or in part during the past year. Don’t succumb to this statistic!

Some worthwhile books to check into may be as close as your newest bookstore’s bestseller display. Keep in mind that you have the flexibility to pace yourself within a schedule that works for you. Can you commit to a specific time amount each day or does a page goal work best for you? As you read, sharpen those annotation skills you know your English teachers will be rolling out come August. “Thinking marks” as you read will help you track both character and plot development, as well as help you with overall sequencing strategies.
